At the beach yet again, not one of my best ideas today. The air temp must be about 20 degrees cooler here than at home and boy is it windy. We are a Thirroul and the flags Are so bloody far from the car park that at first I thought the beach was closed, at least until Emma got out and looked around the shrubs. To top it off a bird just pooped on my phone

Edited to add:

It wasn't all bad, the beach is rather empty, maybe 15 people in all including the life savers. It is really relaxing with so little noise. The youngest person here would be Emma so no kids  running around screaming. There are a couple of surfgliders? out today taking advantage of the wind and they are so fun to watch.

Here are some pics from today

The road down to the beaches in Wollongong has the most amazing views, I love the drive down there (not so much the drive back as my car hates climbing hills let alone mountain climbing, plus after a day at the beach all you want to do is nap)
These are from near the top of Bulli Pass, which use to really freak me out when i was younger, this is only the second time i have driven down it myself but it is not as bad as I remember.

Step One
• Make an LJ post. It can be public or friends only, whatever you’re most comfortable with.
The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes, and these wishes can be anything - from simple (a fan fiction written about your favorite pairing), to medium (a DVD you want), to really extravagant (a brand new laptop or car).
Just make sure these are wishes for things you really truly want.

Step Two
• Skim through your friends list and see who has posted their own wish lists.
Then - and this is the most important part - if you find a wish you can grant, and it’s in your heart to do so, make sure that person’s wish comes true.
Sometimes a person’s trash is another person’s treasure.
If you have a leather jacket you don’t want or a gift certificate you’re never going to use, give it to someone who wants it.

Step Three
• Post this wish list any time after November 1st. Then repost it two weeks before Christmas.

• You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to.
The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday fairy--to spread the joy.
Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

• There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached.
Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive.
And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

It is so hot...

I slept in until about 12.30pm when the heat woke me (no air-con in my bedroom) and I wish I went to the beach straight away, but I didn't as the weather station said there was going to be afternoon thunderstorms..

Now 4 hours later, still no storms and I am still thinking of going to the beach but I know that as soon as I get there the thunderstorms will start.

I wish I lived closer to the beach so if it rained it wouldn't be such a wasted trip.

I was just over at TCQ, and there is this post about Google Street View, so I decided to go look at my street. I was fully expecting it not to be done yet, but what I found suprised me (No, I am not in it). The picture is so bloody old. At the very latest it was taken in mid 2007 as it has my old car which was stolen at about that time.

What else suprised me -

Google are very considerate, they have blurred out all the number plates on the cars, blurred the face of one of my neighbours (I can tell they did it as his face is now as wide as his shoulders in the picture) and put fake curtains/blinds in our windows where the blinds where actually open so you cant see inside the house.

It is so cool, I was examining the one picture (taken from directly in front of my house) for like 15 minutes to see if anything about it upset me, but it is so cool.

Has google photographed your street yet?

I just registered my car.

$76.30 to get the pink slip (mandatory annual inspection for all cars over 5 years old)
$635.10 to get the greenslip (mandatory 3rd party insurance, it pays for the medical costs for injuries sustained to other people if I cause an accident)
$263 to the RTA for who knows what (RTA is the equivilent to the DMV)

that's $974.40, I would hope it would be cheaper next year, but I doubt it as the greenslip cost is going up at the end of this month for the second time since April this year, that doesn't bode well for the future.

Note to all New South Welshmen, if you can buy your greenslip now, do it. its about a $50 more on Thursday.

Now I just need to give the car a good wash, inside and out. It is still covered in dust. I tired to hire my sister to do it, and the greedy little bugger wouldn't even do it as it is to much of an effort. Usually she would jump at the chance to earn some money... Looks like a drive thru car wash for the outside, the inside??? I guess I could do it myself, I just don't want to.

Well I had heard about these people trying to take advantage of the Governments free Insulation deal, but today was my first experience with it.

Here is what happened.

A guy comes to my door "Would you like free Installation?"

"Installing what?" i ask

"installation" he replies

"yes, but what?" I ask again

"You know, the government is giving away free installations..." he says

"Oh, insulation, no we already have that." I reply

"When did you get it?, we could re-do it for free"

"A couple of years ago, its fine, we already have it"

"But it's free installation, we could just take a look, free installation, the government says so"

"NO, we already have INSULATION" And I close the door.

Why on earth would you let someone do work on your house (even for free) when they don't even know the word for the product they are supplying????

I so should have taken one of his flyers and reported him. There is no doubt in my mind this guy was dodgy. And it's not free, my taxes are paying you, so I should have the right to fire your ass...

I woke up fairly early this morning, about 5.30am. I stayed in my room though, just surfed online for a while.

I looked over at the window in my room and noticed that the sky was kind of glowing, it looked like the sky was on fire or something.

Anyway it turns out there was a huge dust storm, I just went outside and my green car is sprinkled with orange!

It looks like much of NSW & QLD was in some way effected by this storm, although it was not so red outside of the Sydney region. Wollongong was pink, Coffs was grey, Brisbane was yellow!

up late doing some research for my essay for my history/philosophy course and found an interesting quote.

“amnesia seemed to be a condition of patriotism and this pervaded attitudes toward the teaching and writing of Australian history.”

How true, as I am only now finding out.

When I first looked at this essay question I thought I knew the answer.

The essay is about the role of religion in Australian history.

It seems that I was suffering from this. I now realise I learned crap all about Aussie history in the 20 history courses (all but one were only for one term each, the last was year 11 modern history) i took at high school. I was even declared first in history in year 10... What a crock. But hey I can tell you heaps about American history....

This makes me sad :(

I was looking through the schools directory and jesus there are a lot of mistakes. My high school is listed multiple times (but only one has users that actually use their journals). Also My town is listed but my school is actually listed in Sydney, weird...

I was seeing if I actually knew anyone on LJ, I added [info]angelicbiscuit last time I did this, but I was curious to see if anyone else used LJ (the answer is no)...

Can you tell I am pretty bored (but in an un-productive mood)?

Dear Pulp,

Yesterday (Friday, 4th September,2009) I purchased a pair of black leather shoes from your  store.

I wore them last night to work and I have to just say that they are the most uncomfortable shoes I have ever worn. They are okay for the first hour or so, but after 8 hours I was ready to have my feet amputated. Even wearing my sisters shoes which are 2 sizes too small was more comfortable then the shoes I purchased from your company.

Also these shoes have zero grip, which caused me to fall and injure myself.

Please improve your product if you ever expect me or any of my family or friends to even consider looking at your products in the future.

Sincerely,

krystle_ab

It is soooooo cold....

Why is it that it is colder now (at 07:40am, when the sun is up) than what it was in the middle of the night? there is no wind, it just doesn't make sense....

The temp now is 0.9°C, feels like -1.5°C

I have to pick my elective for next semester this week, but the choices all sound so boring. Any input from the inter-webs?

Choices are:
Marketing and the Consumer - School of Marketing
Tourism: The Global Future - School of Marketing
Managing your business - School of Business Law & Tax
Web Information Resources - School of Information Systems, Technology & Management
Cyberspace Law - Faculty of Law
Spirit, Myth & Sacredness in Architecture - Faculty of the Built Environment
Opiates of the People? Religion and Western Society - School of History and Philosphy
Dressed to Kill: Dress and Identity in History - School of History and Philosphy
Critical Thinking & Practical Reasoning - School of Philosophy
The us eof Language, Images & Symbols - School of Philosophy
Maniacs, Murderers and Medical Detectives - School of History and Philosphy
Indigenous Australia: Present to Future

I have to pick my top 3 choices. At the moment I am leaning towards
1. Opiates of the People? Religion and Western Society - because it sounds interesting
2. Managing your business - because it may be useful in the future
3. Cyberspace Law - Because I download a lot of movies and music from the net, It may become useful...

What do you all think?

So I wrote the majority of my latest essay a few weeks ago, and it is due on monday. But I realised today that I complety missed the point of a whole part of the question.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

So tonight I have been writting another section to add in, in order to try and cover up for me not answering part of the question and in the other sections.

Now my essay is way to long and i still need some references to put in to my new sedction.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

So I guess my Sunday will be spent looking for some good quotes to add, and trying to cut back on the rest of the essay, I was thinking I would just try and make my intro and conclusion a bit shorter as they are pretty long, but I don't know how to cut them back whilst still including all the stuff that needs to be included...

God Help me...

Here are some pictures from Sound Relief (Sydney) last night.

I didn't get many pics for a few of reasons; a)I wanted to actually enjoy the concert; b) I was literally right next to the stage for most of the show (see day-time pics) so the view just didn't include much of anything, especially when the artists where not right at the very front of the stage; and c) it was raining some of the time so I didn't want to ruin the camera.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So these pics are from my position during most of the show (as I was working), it was a pretty good location considering the other possible locations.
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
This is from when the rain stopped, Pics of Icehouse, Molly Meldrum, Barry Gibb (from the Bee Gees) and Olivia Newton John. I must say that I really enjoyed both Icehouse and Barry, Olivia was okay in the Duets with Barry, and she was definetly a great groupie for him when she just danced on stage (she was really into it), but her solo songs where a bit to slow and country for me.
So my favourite things about the show -
Coldplay with John Farnham ( ♥ that song 'your the voice').
Chris Martin running into the crowd, I didn't think he would make it back out in one peice (if at all).
Speech by the princes' (id it just me or is Harry way more cuter than Wills now?)
The Crowd during the rain when The Presets where on, it was wild.
Marcia Hines, simply for being so nice. she came and said hello to us when we (a group of 5 volunteers) where walking around behind the stadium (making our way from one post to another). It was just nice of her.
Things I didn't like-
Toni Collette, she just kept going on and on and on and on. If she wanted to be on stage so long she should have got her band up there and at least entertained us.
The Rain, boy did it come down in buckets.
Teenage girls (I was with security most of the day, and those teenage girls are shits. 95% of the crowd where great. .1% where drunk guys, only a couple of problems with them at my location. But those teenage girls, they should make all festicals teenage girl free zones....
I also shot some video on my camera, not sure if its any good or not as I havn't watched them all the way through yet. These are Barry & Olivia. Others I have are of these two again and Icehouse
[ETA] The video won't embed, so here are the links.
Had my first lecture today. I also had to buy my textbooks and get my student ID card. Stupidly I didn't organise myself well, I parked on the south side of campus (free parking! YAHOO) so then I went to get my ID card first, at the Eastern end of campus. Then after waiting for almost an hour as the line was so long I got my ID card. I then had to go to the bookshop, in the middle of campus. Then I had to go to my lecture again at the eastern side of campus.
This would be fine if there were not so many frickin' steps.
There are some pics of the UNSW (University of New South Wales) Campus below the cut.Pics under here )
